Shoal Creek Village Park
Located at North 79th Terrace and Lane Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri.
Installed Fall 2004.
This open space landscaping project for the Zion Securities in the new Shoal Creek Valley development was designed and completed using nearly exclusively regional native plant materials. The landscape beds define use areas and back up the central pavilion.
Each bed was fully planted with a variety of native plants arranged in an ornamental display of what is typically thought of as "wild" plants to provide year round color and textural interest. Again, regionally native plant material was selected whenever possible using both evergreen and deciduous trees.
This $43,000 landscaping project was designed, bid, and installed in a seven week period while pavilion construction and concrete placement was occurring simultaneously. Despite heavy rains during the week prior to opening, the project was completed on time.
This project was part of the development that won a Missouri Department of Agriculture '2004 Grow native! Vision Award' for the unique use of native plant materials.
